Reading a book by Edgar Allen Poe inspired him to write, and when he was at the lowest point in his life, he wrote Rocky. When it sold, he insisted on starring in it - and so he achieved his dream.

Jim Rohn Video: Developing Greatness

The best lesson Rohn believes there is on economics is that we get paid for bringing value to the marketplace. It takes time to do this, but we don’t get paid for time, only for value. He raises the question: is it possible to become twice or ten times as valuable to the marketplace and therefore get paid twice or ten times as much in the same amount of time? He concludes that it is, and that the focus must therefore be on increasing our value.

Value

Why would the marketplace only pay someone 5 dollars an hour? Because he’s not very valuable to the marketplace (regardless of his value elsewhere). It’s perfectly possible for anyone to climb up the earnings ladder by increasing their value to the marketplace, by working harder on themselves than they do on their jobs.
