How to Succeed with Your Diet Plan

June 4th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Family Health

How do you lose weight and keep it off completely?  This is not very easy to do.  Many people fail at this.  Once you have considered what diet to follow, how can you stick to it?  These tips may prove helpful to you.

  • Dieting involves a great deal of determination.  It involves changing your lifestyle forever.  So choose a diet very carefully.  It should be one you can follow for a long time.  Never choose a diet program that entails starvation and deprivation.  Choose a diet that is more realistic and can be done over the long haul.
  • If you opt for the fad diets, most surely, you will only be too eager until the diet is done and you can go back to the foods you normally have.  When you decide on losing weight, it should be permanent.  Choose a diet plan that you can stick to.
  • It will be good to monitor your food intake on a daily basis.  Note down all the food you take in a day.  In doing this, you can review your food intake and you will know when you are cheating on your diet.
  • In addition to just noting down all the food you take in a day, why not write also how you feel with the food you eat.  Note the pangs of hunger when it arises.  By doing this you can better prepare yourself for the hardships that you will encounter.  Being prepared and knowledgeable of the outcome of dieting, you can psyche yourself better.
  • When finally you have succeeded in losing weight, give yourself a reward.  This is for a job well done.  Rewards make one feel good.  When you know that your efforts will be appreciated, you will be more determined on your goal.
  • The reward should be commensurate with the lost weight.  Or it can be based on the amount of time it took for you to lose the weight you have set to lose.  A word of caution though, the reward should not be a food item.

Who ever said that losing weight will be easy?  Many fail at it.  Problems will always arise as to how to stick to the diet plan.  But if you are determined, disciplined, and really bent on losing weight, after hard work and perseverance, you will surely succeed.

Making the Most of Your Exercise Routine

April 20th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Family Health

Exercising consistently is crucial if you want to start living healthy and start shedding the pounds. But not all exercises are made the same.  To make the most out of every second of your work out session, the key is to know the right exercise that will help you reach your fitness goal.

There is no such thing as one kind of exercise routine that will help keep you stay fit and lose weight.  The best solution is to mix different types of exercises to make the most out of your routine.

The first part of any effective exercise routine is t warm-up.  Always make the time to do stretching which benefits your muscles.  In this way you are allowing to let the blood flow throughout your muscles.  This also prevents you from having to suffer from pulled muscles as you go along your routine.

Every exercise routine should include an amount of cardio training.  One of the most popular ways to do this is by using the treadmill.  But there are other ways you can maximize the use of the treadmill and burn more calories by the spending the same time on it. Enter, interval training.

By using interval training you can intensify and reduce the intensity of your exercise in quick intervals.  You can start by walking slowly in the treadmill.  Stay in the same speed for 2 to 3 minutes.  The next step is to turn up the speed of your treadmill in such a way that you won’t be able to hold a conversation with the person beside you.  Stay in this setup for around 7 minutes to energize your heart rate.

The best method to maximize the use of the treadmill is to switch from a fast pace to a walking pace repeatedly, which will make your muscles to work more.  Just make sure to stay in the treadmill for a few minutes when you start ending your work out to let your body cool down.

Another important part to an exercise routine is resistance training, which will help you build muscle.  More calories are burned by muscles than fat.  The simplest way to perform resistance training is through a workout circuit.  Gyms have equipment dedicated to resistance training.  You will find these machines arranged in a circle and all you need to do is work them from one end to another.

You can do circuit training in half an hour.  A light signal will let you know if its time to go to the next workout station.  These stations switch from weight machines to walking in place or step up and down steps.  It’s a quick intense workout session all jam packed in half an hour.

Every exercise routine should end with a cool down.  This is required so that your heart rate slows down until it returns to normal.  Cool down exercises always include stretching of the muscles especially those you’ve been working on.  It’s best to do this slowly allowing your muscles to breathe and end your routine the proper way.

Deep Sleep Top 10 List

January 25th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Health Research

When was the last time you had a good night’s sleep? Have you noticed that you are much more productive and have more energy when you are well rested? It is also easier to lose weight if you get enough sleep on a regular basis. If you aren’t getting the sleep you need, you might try the following tips.

1. Get into a regular sleep routine. One of the best things you can do is go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, including weekends. If you do this, your body will be trained to go to sleep when you are ready and you will wake up feeling well rested.

2. Stay away from anything with caffeine. That late afternoon cup of coffee or soda might just be what’s keeping you up at night. If you are sensitive to caffeine, even the morning coffee you enjoy could affect your sleep. Once you start sleeping better, you’ll be glad you gave it up.

3. Consider using herbs and other natural treatments for sleeplessness. Lavender, for instance, is known for the relaxing properties in its scent and can be incorporated into bedding either by putting fresh lavender inside the pillows or buying a pillowcase made from lavender. If you want a stronger herb, an herb like valerian root is said to relax you and help you sleep.

4. Change the position you sleep in. Research has shown that many people sleep better in the fetal position with their spine curved. Adding a pillow between your legs will increase the support on your back and help you sleep better while keeping you in that position.

5. Keep televisions, music and other sensory activities out of your bedroom. You don’t want the bedroom to be a stimulating environment; you want it to be calming and relaxing - an environment that invites rest and sleep. When you do nothing but sleep in your bedroom, your mind will come to associate the bedroom with sleep.

6. Get enough exercise. When you exercise on a regular basis, you will feel better and sleep better too. Exercise tires your body and makes it easier for you to fall asleep. Also, if you are physically fit, you are less likely to suffer from sleep apnea, snoring and other sleeping disorders.

7. Alcohol may help you fall asleep at night but you probably won’t get a good night’s sleep. Alcohol is a depressant so it relaxes you but you may end up awake in the middle of the night when you should be sleeping.

8. It’s hard to sleep if your mind is going a hundred miles an hour. Try and do something relaxing like yoga or meditation before bed to calm yourself. You might also try listening to relaxing music or taking a bath.

9. Your mom was right — a glass of warm milk will help you sleep. Milk contains proteins and chemicals that cause drowsiness. The calcium in the milk is good for your body and helps the milk relax you.

10. If nothing else is working, visit your doctor. They can help you find ways to relax and get some sleep and make sure there aren’t any more serious problems. There may be a medication that will work for you.

Colon Cleansing, Weight Loss & You!

January 7th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Health Research

Many people swear by colon cleansing to feel better, lose weight and stay healthy. It is becoming more and more accepted as a health treatment. Here is some information about colon cleansing and how it can help you lose weight.

The colon’s purpose is to remove waste from the food that we eat. Most people’s diets these days include a lot of processed foods. These foods make it much more difficult for the colon to do its job. Much of the toxins and waste products accumulate in the colon; they petrify and eventually cause health problems. What colon cleansing does is get rid of the leftover waste and toxins from the colon so it can work more efficiently, encouraging the body to process food in a more efficient manner.

Most people notice an immediate weight loss when they start with colon cleansing. This is because colon cleansing is able to flush out most of the waste matter that as accumulated in the colon.  After you have been on a colon cleansing routine for a while, you will continue to lose weight because you will be absorbing more nutrients and less waste will be left in the colon. A colon that is working well helps with weight loss.

Most people don’t think about their digestive system as it relates to weight control; we often associate weight control with exercise and diet.  A typical diet where you eat less and exercise more doesn’t take into consideration that your metabolism will usually decrease to make up the difference. Treating your digestive system so it is at its healthiest is a good way to lose weight.

One of the benefits of colon cleansing is increased stamina and energy. If you want to work on shedding off those unwanted pounds, you can take that extra energy and turn it into exercise. You will wake up feeling better every day and have a better outlook on life when you are not feeling tired and sluggish. Also, some of the added energy comes from your body being able to get more nutrients out of the food you eat.

Colon cleansing is a great tool for improving your health and even losing weight. It is just one tool in the toolbox, though! You need to have a well balanced diet and exercise in order to feel your best. You also need to make sure you cut back on processed foods and eat more fresh vegetables and fruits.

Like any medical treatment, you need to do some research about colon cleansing and make sure you know what you are doing and that you use a safe product or program. Also, talk to your doctor about your plans and get his or her advice.
