Vitamin K is an important but largely overlooked element of good health.  It aids in the normal clotting of blood and helps form and maintain healthy bones.  Vitamin K2 is stored only in very small amounts in the human body, and certain drugs like antibiotics can cause a deficiency.  A certain type of Vitamin K, known as MK-7, is becoming more widely recognized as an effective natural treatment for both heart disease and bone loss.  This book explains how to get your daily dose of Vitamin K through diet and supplements.  It also covers dosage requirements and potential drug interactions.

Detox Supplements: The Vitamin E Factor by Andreas Papas

The Miraculous Antioxidant for the Prevention and Treatment of Heart Disease, Cancer, and Aging

The Vitamin E Factor: The Miraculous Antioxidant for the Prevention and Treatment of Heart Disease, Cancer, and Aging51P7GNSJKRL._SL160_ Detox Supplements: The Vitamin E Factor by Andreas Papas

Vitamin E has been scientifically proven to aid in the prevention and treatment of many diseases and conditions, including Alzheimer’s disease, autoimmune disorders, fertility issues, and even cancer!  But author Andreas Papas argues that simply adding a vitamin E supplement to your diet isn’t the right move.  You have to understand more about the supplement to determine what kind of vitamin E is right for you and in what dose.  Most supplements contain only one compound found in vitamin E, while the entire range of eight components can often be found only in natural supplements and food sources.  This book includes information on the chemical nature of vitamin E, as well as practical information on this amazing nutrient and a few interesting tidbits about its origins.

Take Care of Your Heart This Winter

January 28th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Family Health

We all seem to be more likely to be sick in the winter with colds, the flu and bronchitis among other things. Another disease that shows up more in the winter is heart disease. You may not know that the chances of having a heart attack are twice as high in the winter as opposed to the summer. People are also more likely to die from heart attack in the winter. If you have a history of heart problems, you need to take extra good care of yourself in the winter.

Exposing your body to the cold winter temperatures can be dangerous to your heart. Your blood vessels are contracted from the cold,  which means the blood flow in your body is reduced. Any underlying problems like plaque thus tends to be more dangerous in the winter. You can help prevent problems by always wearing warm clothes when outside in the winter. Don’t be in a hurry to take those warm clothes off after getting back in your warm house. Instead, remove them layer by layer over a period of time.

Stress is always a concern and contributes to heart problems all year round. The holiday season which falls in the winter can be a stressful time for all of us. Also, the decreased exposure to the sun and a decrease in our activity level can increase stress and make us sad and depressed. If you are feeling a lot of stress, you need to carve out time in the day to focus on yourself and to relax. There are many ways you can relax and calm down. You can try learning some relaxation techniques like visualization as well as yoga and meditation.

The winter is also a busy time for the flu virus. Getting the flu puts a lot of extra stress on the body,  and this could increase your heart attack risk. If you get a flu shot, you can lower your chances of catching the flu. Also, use common sense and avoid people who are sick and wash or sanitize your hands as often as possible.

Working out or doing chores can be dangerous in the winter. Too much exercise or strenuous exercise can contribute to a heart attack. In the winter, things like shoveling or suddenly working out very hard can raise your risk of a heart attack. You can exercise at a lower level of intensity and still get the benefits of a workout. It isn’t necessary to push yourself as hard as you can. Take it easy and be safe when exercising. Make sure your doctor approves of your exercise plan especially if you have a history of heart problems.

What you eat can increase your risk of having heart problems. In the winter, we are often feeling a little depressed, which can mean eating for emotional reasons. Emotional eating is usually related to unhealthy foods like cookies, cakes and sweets. The more junk food you eat, the harder it is on your body and on your heart. You’ll need to be extra careful with what you eat and how much of it you eat in the winter.

Heart disease is a serious condition but it can be prevented in most cases by using good judgment and taking care of yourself.

Why You Should Quit Smoking

January 28th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Family Health

Are you a smoker? Are you aware that you are putting your health (and life) at risk by continuing the habit? You should also be aware that you’re putting the health of those around you since they are exposed to second hand smoke. You are increasing your chances of getting a serious disease like lung cancer, heart disease and more by smoking. If you quit smoking now, you would lower your risks to levels equal to those of a smoker who quit 10 years ago. You will also get some immediate results from quitting.

The following are the benefits you can get right away if you quit smoking today:

Your sense of taste and smell will return which means you’ll be able to enjoy food and beverages much more and enjoy smells you have been missing all those years you were smoking.

Don’t worry about the smoker’s cough; it will go away in time. The first few days or weeks after you quit smoking, your lungs will be trying to get rid of all the toxins that have built up over the years. Eventually, you will stop coughing.

You won’t have as much of a risk for diseases affecting your lungs and airways like asthma, bronchitis and pneumonia if you quit smoking. Your lungs will be able to build their resistance to these diseases back up after you quit. If you are already asthmatic, you’ll experience asthma attacks less frequently.

You will lower your blood pressure. Nicotine has been shown to negatively affect blood pressure. You might get rid of those headaches and have more energy once your blood pressure goes back to normal.

You’ll be amazed at how much more endurance you’ll have. Those small tasks that used to have you breathing heavily after only a few minutes will be easy to do now.

Your sleeping habits will improve. Not only will the nicotine, a stimulant, not be keeping you awake any longer, your cough will be gone as well.

You won’t be at as high of a risk for ulcers and other stomach disorders. Smoking weakens your stomach by affecting the acid levels and destroying the lining.

You’ll be proud of yourself after you quit smoking and it’ll show in the way you carry yourself.

We all know smoking is dangerous and we’d eventually be healthier if we quit. That doesn’t motivate a lot of people, however, who don’t see any immediate reasons to quit. There are benefits to stopping smoking that you can notice right away. This will help you stay motivated and resolute to never light up another cigarette again.

The Benefits of Colon Cleansing

January 27th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Health Research

Colon cleansing is a controversial medical procedure with some doctor’s saying it has benefits and others saying it is not worth it. Still, colon cleansing is becoming more and more popular.

The colon is that part of the digestive system that is responsible for getting rid of all the waste in the body. If the colon is not functioning as well as it should be, waste and other toxins continue to accumulate in the colon; an unhealthy colon cannot expel the waste matter as quickly as it should. This is where colon cleansing can be of benefit. Colon cleansing is said to help the body  by removing the waste.

In order to get your colon back in good working shape, you need to clean it out. The main ways of cleaning your colon are by using a machine that you insert that removes waste or by taking supplements that remove the waste. Both ways of cleansing the colon are effective in flushing out all the toxins and chemicals and also removin parasites that could be harming you. Once all this waste is gone, your body will be able to remove waste on its own more efficiently.

If the colon is full of chemicals and toxins, your digestive system can suffer. When your colon can’t remove waste, the waste gets backed up into your system and can cause problems in your whole body. Waste build up can affect all your organs and lead to increased risk of heart disease, allergies or arthritis.

You will get a lot of benefits out of colon cleansing like weight loss, improved skin tone and less stomach pains. Your whole body will work better and feel better.

Some experts say your body will remove these toxins and the extra waste in time on its own so there really is no need for colon cleansing. They don’t think a build up of waste is a potential problem. However, the diet we used to eat a thousand years ago is not the same as what we eat now. We don’t eat the natural unprocessed foods of the past anymore. Our bodies have to digest a lot of chemicals every day that it doesn’t know what to do with. Cleansing your colon will remove the toxins that build up from our current diet.

Colon cleansing alone isn’t the solution. You need to live a healthy lifestyle and eat a well balanced diet so that you don’t contribute to more waste build up. If you life a healthy lifestyle, colon cleansing from time to time will enhance your health. Getting regular colon cleansings does not mean that you don’t have to take care of your body and eat right.

Dangers of Second Hand Smoke

January 26th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Family Health

Everyone knows that smoking is a very unhealthy habit that can lead to cancer, emphysema, and other serious lung diseases. However, every smoker needs to realize the danger their habit poses to innocent bystanders.

There are hundreds of dangerous chemicals in cigarettes and these chemicals remain in the air after the cigarette is gone. Breathing second hand smoke is potentially dangerous and has been linked to diseases like heart disease and a number of lung diseases.

Children are especially affected by second hand smoke and the toxins it contains because their breathing rate is higher and also because their bodies are still growing. Second hand smoke has been linked to anything from ear infections to lung problems in children.

Even if you make sure your children and loved ones are not exposed to your second hand smoke, you are still harming them because you are risking your life. How would your loved ones feel if they had to go on without you because you just couldn’t stop smoking? Do you want your children and loved ones to have to take care of you forever if you develop a serious medical condition due to smoking? Think about your family and how much they care about you. Don’t forget your children look up to you so you need to be a good example for them.

Quitting smoking is hard and sometimes takes several tries. If you do some research, you can find the medication or program that will work for you.

Quit smoking products that slowly decrease the level of nicotine in your body through a patch system or by chewing nicotine gum can be effective. The variety of quit smoking products available makes it easy to find one that will work for you. This method is a good method to use because you will slowly get the nicotine out of your system, which means you will experience fewer withdrawal symptoms.

Prescription and over the counter medicines are available to help you quit smoking and treat nicotine withdrawal. Your doctor can help you find a medicine or system that will work for you.

It will be a lot easier to quit smoking if you do it with a friend or family member. You’ll need all the support you can get. You can also find a local support group where you’ll meet a lot of other people going through the same thing as you.

Replace your smoking habit with a healthier habit. Part of quitting smoking is finding an activity to replace smoking so you don’t miss it so much. Think about what you were getting out of smoking and think about how to meet those needs in a healthier way.

Your family will be healthier and happier and you will too if you quit smoking.

Cleansing Your Colon with Herbs: Learn How!

January 21st, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Health Research

People are just starting to discover all the benefits of colon cleansing including weight loss, increased energy and the ability to decrease the chances of getting certain diseases including cancer.

The food you eat is digested and the waste is excreted from the colon. Not all the waste you take in is excreted, though. This means there is waste in your colon for long periods of time. The chemicals from this waste can affect all your organs, not just your colon.

The most common symptoms you will experience are a lack of energy and abdominal and stomach problems. Sometimes, more serious medical conditions can occur. The toxins in the waste that is left to build up on your colon can increase your risks of colon cancer as well as other problems like heart disease, allergy and immune deficiencies since the toxins spread throughout your body.

Colon cleansing is a great way to treat these symptoms by getting all of the built up waste and any parasites out of your body. You will have increased energy and feel healthier once this waste is gone. Also, with the waste build up gone, your body will process food more efficiently and absorb more nutrients.

Herbal remedies can be found in most health food stores to clean your colon. You want to make sure you find an herbal program, not just an herb, so that your colon will be fully cleansed. Depending on which you prefer, you can take these herbs as a pill, liquid or powder. Look for a combination system that will work on your whole body.

The negative information out there about colon cleansing doesn’t have much to do with herbal colon cleansing. It refers instead to using a colon cleansing device, something that can be dangerous. Herbal colon cleansers just help your body remove the toxins more effectively.

You’ll want to do a lot of research before you decide on a colon cleansing product or system. There are many companies out there selling products on TV, on the radio and on the Internet that claim to cleanse your colon. Not all these products are equally effective so don’t just buy the first one you see. Look at your local health store or do some online research to find a safe, effective colon cleansing product. A good rule of thumb to remember is that the better a colon cleansing product tastes, the less it will work because adding flavor means taking out effective ingredients.

Once you start improving your health by doing a colon cleansing, you’ll want to start doing other healthy things for your body too! Other toxins in your body might be causing you problems and can be treated with herbs and special diets. The healthier you eat and live, the less build up you will get after you cleanse your colon.

Living Green and Living Longer

January 21st, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Family Health

We are all becoming more and more aware of environmental issues facing our world today. There is information about the environment in every paper, online and on the TV news every day. Our daily activities can cause severe problems in the environment by increasing global warming and pollution and increasing the number of extinct animals.

It is obvious that living a green life will help our environment. Making a few simple changes will help make our environment better and healthier, as well as encourage repair of prior damage. Living a green life can also make you healthier and increase your longevity. Here are some simple ways your can both help the environment and live longer.

Making it a point to buy organic food whenever possible will lead to an increase in the number of organic farms in your area and around the world. Organic farms use safer and just as effective ways to deal with pests and other issues instead of poisoning the earth with pesticides. In addition, organic farms are more humane in the way they treat the animals they raise. Organic food is good for you and can lead to better health.

Environmentalists feel that our land should be used more and more for vegetation and produce instead of raising animals. If we all eat fruits and vegetables a little more each day, farmers will be encouraged to do just that. It takes a lot more of our natural resources to raise animals on the land than it does to grow vegetation. A diet full of fresh produce will keep you healthy and make it easier to keep that extra weight off.

Driving less by carpooling and carefully planning your errands and other trips will be good for the environment and for your health. The fewer cars on the road, the less pollution that will be put into the environment. Pollution is thought to contribute to diseases like heart disease so we all will benefit as well.

Even better than carpooling is using your own two legs to get where you need to go. If possible, you should walk or bike to your destinations, which will help the environment and make you healthy and strong since no harmful gases are emitted.

Clean your house with green products that do not contain unsafe chemicals. The products we use to clean end up in the water supply at some point so it is best to use green products to avoid polluting our water and earth. Also, we will be healthier if we aren’t breathing in all those nasty chemicals when we clean.

It is important to do what you can to help the environment and to help keep our animals safe. Living a green life also benefits you by making you healthier and increasing your longevity. So why would you not live as green as possible?
