Keep Your Hair Healthy This Winter
Winter is hard on all of us. Our skin gets dry, we get tired of being stuck in the house and our hair just isn’t the same. You can take some steps to maintain that silky hair this winter.
You have to plan ahead for great hair in the winter. This fall, go to the beauty salon and have your hair trimmed so the ends are healthy. It’s also a good idea to give your hair a good deep conditioning treatment. Getting your hair in top shape before winter will make your hair much easier to keep that way. Maintain your hair with beauty salon appointments for trims and treatments all winter.
Often, all our hair needs is a different hair conditioning product. Keep a variety of conditioners on hand, especially in the winter, and use one for awhile before changing to another one and so on. Use conditioners that have extra moisturizing power. There are also hair conditioners available that you can simply apply to your hair and leave in. You may want to alternate conditioners every week or so to prevent your hair from becoming too limp.
Since wet hair can take a much longer time to dry during the winter, you’re much more likely to use the blow dryer. This can be very hard on your hair; too much heat can cause damage to your hair. To minimize hair damage from blow drying, apply styling products such as gels, sprays or leave-in conditioners on your hair prior to blow drying. In addition, you’ll want to use a softer bristled brush and not pull as much on your hair while blow drying and combing.
You can do more than take care of the exterior of your hair. You can make your hair healthier from the inside by taking the right vitamins including A, C, E and B vitamins. Eating a balanced diet with a lot of fresh produce will also help strengthen your hair and make it shine.
Your hair needs to be hydrated to look good and so does your body. Do them both a favor and make sure you drink enough water this winter. The added benefits of drinking a lot of water include weight loss and improved skin tone.
If your scalp isn’t healthy, your hair won’t look good either. Your hair feeds off the moisture in your scalp and won’t look its best unless you make sure your scalp is moisturized. You can also avoid dandruff this way. Giving your self a scalp massage is also a good idea because it stimulates your hair cells and encourages growth.
If you are willing to put a little time into it, you can keep your soft, silky hair all year long — including the winter.
