ABOUT AYURVEDA AND DOSHA

Ayurveda originated from India as a holistic system of medicine. The belief lies on ‘doshas’ or the three constitutional energy forces, in which each dosha is said to show in us. Determining your dosha will then guide you to specific treatments, food and lifestyle to achieve good health and heal illnesses.

Before you take any Dosha package at The Chiang Mai Ayurvedic Center, you will be required to take a test to determine your dominate dosha type. A similar test can be found on the website.

AYURVEDIC TREATMENTS

Abhyanga (1 hour costs USD 25 - USD 42) Treatment is for people suffering from body aches and pains or for those who have an over active mind. The slow and gentle touch performed in this process relaxes the mind and speeds up toxin elimination.

Basti (Oil Enema) (1 hour costs USD 27 - USD 34) Improves constipation, distention, chronic fever, the common cold, sexual disorders, kidney stones, heart pain, vomiting, backache, neck pain and hyper acidity, sciatica, arthritis, rheumatism, and gout and recommended for people suffering from hemorrhoids (or other conditions that may contraindicate colonic irrigation), elderly clients or anyone who finds colonic irrigation too uncomfortable.

Garshan (1 hour costs USD 25 - USD 42) The Garshan massage promotes weight loss and best for people who are inactive, carries excess weight and those suffering from cellulite. Aside from reduction of cellulite, the treatment also improves skin, lessens depression, inactivity and sluggishness.

Head and Foot Massage (1 hour costs USD 21) Ideal for people who want to refresh and rebalance energy and reconnect mind and body. It gives total pampering as two massage professionals work on your body using special Ayurvedic oils.

Nasya (1 hour costs USD 17) If you have been suffering from blocked or a dry nasal passage, sinus, headaches, clouded mental abilities, excess fear, negativity or depression, this treatment is for you. It will improve perception, enhance cerebral circulation and sleeping patterns and give you an improved sense of well-being and calmness of mind.

Netra Tarpana (30 minutes costs USD 17) Here’s a treatment for the eyes, especially for people who work mostly using computers and those that involve heavy eye work that causes blurred vision, eye infection and achy eyes. It is done with a combination of face massages.

Pindasweda (1 hour costs USD 25 - USD 42) Treatment is said to revitalize the whole body with a unique process of massaging a special type of rice mixed with herbs and milk. This soothes muscle aches and pains and best for insomnia, depression, sinus-related ailments and stroke victims.

Pizhichil (10 sessions @ 1500THB each or USD 428) Known as the “King’s Treatment” because of its popularity with the Maharajas of India. It is recommended for an intensive 10-day course to achieve maximum healing potential for muscular aches and pains, rheumatic problems, osteoarthritis, insomnia and depression.

Shiroabhyanga (1 hour costs USD 25 - USD 42) A treatment that nourishes the five senses to provide deep relaxation, balancing of the nervous system, improved and enhanced sensor perception, improved blood circulation, strengthened hair roots, improved hair condition and promotes natural detoxification of the lymph glands around the neck and armpits.

Shirodhara (1 hour costs USD 25 - USD 42) Deep relaxation using medicated oils makes this treatment special. It has calming effects on the nervous system that is best for people with insomnia, headaches, stress, chattering mind, excessive mental fatigue and eye and ear conditions.

Swedana (30 minutes costs USD 13 - USD 17) Spend half an hour in an herb-infused steam box to stimulate sweating which is considered a natural and effective method to detoxify. This treatment improves akin and digestion, promotes activity and eases stiff joints.

Thai Foot Massage (1 hour costs USD 11) For tired and achy feet, this treatment soothes and relaxes from the feet up to improve balance, oxygenation and activation of feet and legs.

Udvartanam (1 hour costs USD 25 - USD 42) Like the Garshan massage, this treatment is also for people with weight problems. Ayurvedic herbs are mixed with Ayurvedic oils and massaged to the skin to stimulate energy, start detoxification and nourishment of body tissues and improve lymph flow.

4 Hand Thai Massage (1 ½ hour costs USD 20) Traditional Thai massage synchronized for deep muscle relaxation. This is for people who can handle pressure. The result is deep relaxation of muscle, awakening of the body’s energy lines, deep lymph movement, accelerated elimination of toxins and deep oxygenation of muscles and tendons.
