Your Health: Sleeping Pills Alternatives
There are natural alternatives that can have the same effect as medicine without all the side effects. Try these first.
- Herbs - Certain herbs cause us to feel sleepy and are less harsh on the body. Possible choices are chamomile, passionflower, valerian, and hops.
- Exercise - Exercising fairly early in the day can improve mood and make it easier to fall asleep at night. Working out right before bed may cause you to stay awake for longer than you want.
- Darken the room - Making sure the room is as dark as possible is very effective, as our bodies naturally prepare for sleep when there is no light.
- Stay away from stimulants (including caffeine) - Caffeine has effects on us for up to several hours after consumption, so skip the caffeinated drinks. If you cannot altogether quit, get your caffeine fix before lunch.
Though sleeping pills can improve our sleep, taking them can be a large decision and should be the last option. Before using the pills, try the natural alternatives, as they are cheap and harmless.
