Toxic Body Symptoms: Suffering From Acid Reflux?

Heart burn occasionally occurs in the majority of us, it is still an inconvenience. Though rare heartburn should not be of great concern, frequent heartburn could be the result of acid reflux disease.

Gastro esophageal Reflux Disease, the proper name for acid reflux, is characterized as continuous and irregular reflux of acid from the stomach into the esophagus. The LES, or lower esophageal sphincter, is a tiny circle of muscles at the stomach opening. Acid is allowed into the esophagus through this muscle ring when it does not close adequately. This occurrence can increase the risk for ulcers and esophageal cancer.

The following is a list of acid reflux symptoms:

  • Acid in mouth - Often sufferers of acid reflux complain of acid traveling to the throat and mouth. Consumed diet may or may not be involved.
  • Constant cough - One symptom of this condition is an increase in coughing. This can be caused when specific nerves are directly affected by the acid. Additionally, the erosion of throat lining can be a factor.
  • Choking feeling - Occasionally it may feel as though something is lodged in the throat when this is not the case.
  • Raspy voice - This symptom is a result of throat damage, and is most evident when first waking up. Asthma can be made more severe, and in severe cases, acid reflux has been found to cause it.

Treatment Options

See a doctor as soon as possible if you suspect that you may have this condition. Once found to have acid reflux, you can deal with it in a number of ways. There are traditional medicines, along with natural herbal remedies, in addition to several changes to your lifestyle that can be effective. Changes you can make are:

  • Quit drinking and smoking - Both habits trigger negative effects of acid reflux, as drinking caused acid levels to rise, and tobacco makes it harder for the LES to properly perform its duties. Also, saliva, a counteractive to refluxed acid, is produced in smaller quantities.
  • Slim down - Due to the increased midsection pressure that comes with obesity, losing weight can alleviate the severity of the symptoms.
  • Modify diet - Try and limit the consumption of citrus fruits, fatty and spicy foods and anything fried. Also, it is beneficial to eat more meals throughout the day, with lower portions. This will decrease acid production.
  • Change sleep position - When lying completely flat, acid is able to travel more easily. Elevating your head while sleeping helps with this problem, in addition to sitting upright for a couple hours after eating a meal.

Though acid reflux can lead to additional health problems, on top of being painful, it is not untreatable. Utilizing a combination of medicine and lifestyle modifications, the majority of people can greatly reduce their symptoms.
