Summer Allergy Remedies & Treatments

Whatever the reason, whether your traditional allergy medicine is not as effective, or you want to try a healthier, more natural option, there are many products available that help with allergies and do not carry the dangers of certain regular medications.

In recent times, much emphasis has been placed on Omega-3 fatty acids and the benefits they have on your body. They boost your immune system and generally aid many body processes. Included in the list of conditions it helps allergies. It is fairly easy to add more Omega-3 acids to your diet by consuming additional nuts, fish, and flax seeds. If you are unable to eat more of these foods for some reason, consider taking a supplement. When choosing a supplement, research first to make sure it does not have unwanted side effects.

Another compound that is found naturally in food is quercitin. It is valuable for its anti-histamine properties. Eating apples, broccoli, parsley, citrus fruits, and tomatoes will help boost your levels of quercitin. Due to its relatively low natural occurrence, a supplement is a good option. Also, quercitin is an antioxidant, so it reduces the risk for some types of cancer.

When thinking of ideas for an allergy treatment, weeds are probably the one of the last things you would consider. Butterbur and stinging nettles have been shown to lower histamine production and give relief from allergies. You can buy the plants and make them into tea or take a supplement.

Allergy shots are a popular way to reduce the effects of allergies. A small dose of allergen is put in the body, and this occurs every week for a few years. After a while, tolerance is built up so that medication is no longer necessary. The problem with this procedure is it can cause its own side effects. A new option exists, called sublingual immunotherapy, and it places the allergens underneath the tongue, so it is less painful but still achieves the same results.

If a chemical entering your body is not appealing to you, consider using a Nettie pot. It is very comparable to histamine blocking nasal sprays, but it is made up of only water and salt. It removes toxins and allergens from your sinuses, which prevents allergic reactions from occurring. It is possible to do this using only water and salt, but the Nettie pots make it easier and faster.

With many of these options, you don’t even need to quit your regular medicine to see benefits. First, contact a medical professional to ensure that there are no conflicts between the medicine and natural treatment. Begin taking the natural alternatives long before allergy season starts, as they often need a while before they fully work.
