Cleansing Foods: Eat Nuts for an Energy Boost!

When the day begins to drag on and you feel the need for a nap, what do you use to try and give yourself an energy boost? Perhaps you drink some soda or coffee and eat a candy bar. You will get a quick boost from them, but the energy will not last long, and you will soon crash back to where you were before the snacks.

A much healthier alternative for an energy boost is nuts. In addition to providing nearly instant energy, they provide us with more stamina than products with large amounts of sugar and caffeine. Also, nuts feature many additional health benefits.

Nuts contain large amounts of protein. Protein is an excellent way to get energy, but it does not work as fast as carbohydrates. Although protein is not a good choice for a nearly instantaneous energy boost, it is great for long-term energy.

Another excellent substance contained in nuts is CoQ10, or coenzyme Q10. It aids our cells in the production of energy. Also, it is an antioxidant, so it can reduce the risk for certain cancers and protect our cells from damage. While CoQ10 is produced naturally in our bodies, we produce less as we age. Eating foods high in CoQ10 can help us to reap its benefits, well into old age.

Omega-3 fatty acids are also present in many nuts. It is an unsaturated fat and helps the organs and muscles to store energy. Also, LDL, or bad cholesterol, levels are lowered in the body. Other than supplements, there are not many substances that contain more Omega-3 fatty acid.

The Best Nuts

All nuts have positive affects on your energy, but certain types have additional advantages. Some of these include:

  • Almonds - Possessing multiple health and nutritional benefits, almonds are always a great choice for a snack. A single serving features the same amount of protein as many types of meat. Also, your body will receive significant amounts of iron and potassium, both of which are crucial for maintaining a high level of energy.
  • Walnuts - Only one serving of walnuts can give you up to 90% of the daily recommended value of Omega-3 acid. Also, they contain L-arginine, which is converted into glucose and glycogen, the substances your body burns to produce energy.
  • Cashews - Cashews may be considered a leaner nut, as they have less fat than the majority of different nuts. However, this reduced fat content does not come at the price of lower nutrient levels. Copper, minerals, and amino acids are in walnuts, all of which affect your energy level.

Though excellent snacks whenever, nuts are even more efficient when feeling tired or drowsy. Mixing different types of nuts can maximize energy and health benefits. Next time you feel like taking a nap but are unable to, reach for some nutritious nuts instead of unhealthy products with high amounts of sugar and caffeine.
