Detoxifying Foods: Rambutan

There is possibly no fruit more beautiful than the Thailand Rambutan, and though it is relative common to the people of Thailand, and other parts of Southeast Asia, it is a rare, exotic fruit, much sought after by people in other areas of the world. The fruit grows on an evergreen tree; it’s color a vibrant red. It grows in grape like clusters and is probably most well known for the tiny spikes growing from its rind that give it a soft, fuzzy look.

Inside, you’ll find a blub of white flesh, tucked inside like a nut inside a shell. When you squeeze the red casing, your Rambutan will literally pop out, similar to squeezing the yolk from a boiled egg. Cutting it crosswise will reveal a single seed, which needs to be removed (has a bitter taste). The remaining flesh is sweet, tasty and packed with nutrition.

Fans of Rambutan say the fruit leaves a refreshing taste in their mouth; probably from the entire vitamin C. But there is a lot more than Vitamin C to be found. In fact, most people are amazed by the nutrient content.
