The Danger of Colonics

If you are interested in having a body that is free of toxins and living the healthiest life possible, you have no doubt heard of colonics. Colonics are known by other names such as colon irrigation, and this is different from an enema in that it cleans out the intestine up to the colon while an enema only cleans out the lower portion of the intestine. While there are some reported health benefits of colonics, there are also some dangers associated with them as well. It should be known that while many people report positive side effects from colonics, there is no documented scientific evidence that supports such theories.

One of the most obvious dangers of colonics is that you are “messing” with a very delicate part of your body. If you go to a technician that is supposed to give you a colonic and they do not know what they are doing or they are not properly trained, it can cause irreparable damage to your intestines and even to your colon. This is why it is so important when you receive a colon irrigation to be certain that you are dealing with someone who is experienced and certified to perform such procedures.

Another danger of colonics is that when you go through this procedure you are not only removing the negative things in your body, you may also be removing some of the “good” bacteria. When you do this you can actually be more likely to get sick. When you have a true colonic it is important that you take probiotics, which are often prescribed and can be taken in either pill form or in rectal suppository form.

There are many people that should get a doctors advice before receiving a colonic. Pregnant women, some people with diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart conditions should never consider a colonic. Those that suffer from polyps or hemorrhoids will also need to take great care if they are considering colonic irrigation because there could be negative side effects. The best thing to do if you are considering colonic irrigation is to make an appointment with your doctor and talk to him or her about the advantages or disadvantages for you. Going in with the information you need will insure that you get all of the possible benefits and not put yourself at an unnecessary risk.

As you can see, there are some dangers associated with colonics, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t consider them. There are pros and cons to just about any medical procedure out there, and as long as you understand the dangers you can prepare yourself for possible side effects or ensure that you have all of the information and education that you need to make it a positive experience. Colonics are something that many people credit with changing their life, and though there is no scientific data to back up these claims, if you know the dangers and you do all that you can to avoid them, it could be a turning point for you, as well.
