The Zone Diet: History and Details
The Zone Diet has been around since the mid 1990’s and was created by a biochemist by the name of Barry Sears. This diet has been embraced by many people over the years, giving varying levels of success. Sears introduced the world to The Zone Diet first in his book entitled The Zone: A Dietary Road Map and he has followed this introduction to the diet by several more books giving more instruction and updates to the diet.
All About The Zone Diets
The Zone Diet is unique compared to a lot of diets on the market today because it does not eliminate one food group, instead it actually suggests obtaining calories from many different sources including carbohydrates, proteins, and fat. The ratios are 40% carbohydrates, 30% proteins, and 30% fats. This diet is preferred by a lot of people who don’t like to the limited on the types of foods that they can consume, as this diet allows for consumers to eat a little bit of everything.
While Sears was adamant that this is the ratio of calories that should be consumed by those trying to lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle, there has been a lot of debate concerning the amount of research that went into finding this ratio and how well it will work. While there has been some debate, The Zone Diet has been backed up in recent studies that have shown that participants can lose weight at a reasonable rate when they follow the diet accordingly. In fact, some studies have shown that followers of this diet have actually lost more fat than when compared with other diets.
Many like The Zone Diet because it does not feel as much like a diet. While many people are used to suffering from side effects such as fatigue and hunger, most do not experience after day two or three with the Zone Diet. The Zone Diet is known among dieters as one of the easiest diets to follow while still allowing for weight loss to continue.
The term “The Zone” comes from Sears, who is referring to a hormone balance. Sears believes that when insulin levels are either too high or two low, that it makes it difficult to lose weight. When you get those levels “in the zone” it suddenly becomes easier to lose weight and keep it off. In addition, when you are “in the zone” you have a caloric balance and therefore the body does not have to store excess calories, which translate to fat.
There are many followers of The Zone Diet, including people who have been able to lose hundreds of pounds as well as those that are famous. Some of the famous people who have followed The Zone Diet include Jennifer Aniston, Renee Zellweger, and Cindy Crawford. While the American Heart Association does not recommend the diet because of high protein levels, many, including Hollywood stars, find that the diet works and allows for them to change their life painlessly.
